The Baker Wannabe

It’s been more than three weeks since I last posted something here. Talk about busy schedules. 😛

The past few weeks have been a bit hectic for me. For the first two weeks of this month, I have been alternating between work and cleaning the house in preparation of my little boy being here with me for a month. He’s been here with me (along with his nanny, of course) for the past two weeks now. And since then, my schedule has been divided into work, mommy duties, therapy sessions and doctors appointments.

Anyway, one of my hobbies for a few years now is to bake. Yep, I am a baker wannabe. I’ve been wanting to bake since I was a kid but we didn’t have an oven until I discovered that I can bake cookies using the oven toaster (go figure). Eversince I started working and thought of baking again, I have thought of buying an oven but my last apartment is too tiny I no longer have space for another bulky appliance. It’s just about a few months ago that I decided to get one.

Buying an oven for me was quite a big decision. I weighed my reasons for getting one and I can say that after several years of contemplating and a year of trying to find the “perfect” oven for me, I am happy with my decision. Hee Hee!

I am no true-blooded baker (if there is such a thing). I bake just because I want to and I think this is something that I can really do that is kitchen related. I am no good cook, either, just to let you know. I can cook but not as good as my siblings so I think I found my niche in baking. Well, I hope so.

Whenever I am in the mood, I bake cookies (it’s the easiest one to make using an oven toaster) and now, I have started making brownies, too. Weeee! I have decided to try and turn this expensive hobby of mine into a business, after several months of handing out “free tastes” to my office mates who are delighted with my baked goodies. Thanks to my office mates who had been asking me nonstop when I’d be selling them goodies, I had my first batch of orders delivered yesterday.

To be honest, I am a bit scared of trying to make something and sell it. I am actually scared of disappointing my customers by not being at par with their expectations. But I guess that is the challenge there that I need to take. To ensure that they get what they expect, that I am able to deliver. I took the risk by putting a price tag on the goods I make and so I now need to take this baking thing seriously. 😛

Okay, I’ll stop blabbing now. Here’s my first batch of orders, delivered to my office mates yesterday. 6 boxes of fudge brownies and 3 packs of chocolate chip oatmeal cookies.

Like I said, I am no baker. I am a wannabe baker. I do not follow recipes to the T. I make my own adjustments and so far, people liked the outcome. And that makes me happy. I am starting small and see where this hobby will lead me.

Looks like I found something in this hobby after all. 🙂
