The Most Wonderful Time of the Year

the most wonderful time of the year

Hello, December! Are you excited for the most wonderful time of the year? I know I am!

Amidst all the heavy traffic jams within and around the big metro, the hoards of people doing their shopping during the weekends (hello, bonus!), the last minute and rush work that needs to be done, I love December. I think it is my most favorite month of the year.

What’s not to love about this month? It’s all about good vibes and smiles and cheers (and booze and caffeine and chocolates and late night binge watching your favorite movies, hahaha!). You hear Christmas songs being played everywhere and it just makes you feel good. Admit it, Christmas songs makes you smile, too. And probably shake your head as you reminisce your childhood during Christmas, hahaha! Right?

Since I became a mom, Christmas became more exciting for me. I look forward to bringing the little boy everywhere to find huge Christmas trees with lots of lights. Z enjoys watching the lights. And I love watching how his face lights up whenever he sees these gigantic trees with all the ornaments and lights.

the huge Christmas tree at Shangri-la Mall is one that we look forward to seeing. This year didn’t disappoint 🙂
Sofia the First themed Christmas tree at SM Pasig. My cousin would love this purple set up 🙂

It’s also becoming a tradition to bring him to Ayala Triangle Gardens to watch the light show. I love how in awe he becomes when the show starts.

The little boy can’t stop looking around, taking it all in 🙂

The little boy and I still have a few more places to visit to see the lights within the big metro. And there will be places that we will visit when we go home to the mountain city, too. I am very sure that the little boy will enjoy all of those.

Shallow as it may seem for some, but for me, looking at Christmas trees and watching light shows with the little boy is a reminder of Z’s milestones. For someone who was born with congenital cataracts and had undergone lens extraction, the threat of the little boy losing his sight was very real. And for him to be able to see the colors and for me to watch his reactions, it is priceless!

Hello, December!

Another thing that I love about Christmas is giving gifts. It’s been a habit of mine since I was still in grade school to give gifts to family. It doesn’t matter whether it is expensive or not, so long as I have something to wrap and give to a family member, I am happy. It makes me happy giving gifts. And it is something that I would like to teach the little boy as well – the act of giving without expecting something in return.

But the most important thing that makes December the most wonderful time of the year for me is having time to spend with family. As I grow older, the more that I appreciate having time with them. With all the busy schedules that we all have including the distance, it makes it hard to plan get-togethers just for the heck of it.

The only time we get to spend time together is during Christmas since we now live on our own (except my youngest brother). Yes, we have get-togethers during other occasions, but more often than not, we are not complete. It is only during the holiday season that we see each other all together for about two days!

I am already counting the days when we get home for the holiday season. Which reminds me, with all the excitement, I have yet to finalize Z’s Christmas list so we can start shopping. This is going to be interesting, that’s for sure!

Is December the most wonderful time of the year for you, too?
